Number of jobs available 2 Region South East City/Town Maidenhead Building/Site Boulters Lock SL16 8TR Grade Staff Grade 3 Post Type Permanent Working Pattern Full Time Role Type Operational Delivery Salary Minimum £25,042 Job description We have an exciting opportunity for someone to work outside in a customer facing environment and contribute to the management of waterways activities on the River Thames. The ideal person will have a diverse range of experience, be energetic and confident in representing the Environment Agency. The successful candidate will be able to work weekends as part of a rota system.

Key responsibilities:
  • Managing and regulating water levels
  • Providing safe passage to boaters through the lock and managing activities on and around the lock site, associated structures and reach
  • Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge
  • Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
  • Maintaining and developing good health, safety and wellbeing practices
  • Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
  • Undertaking compliance and regulation activities
  • Liaising and working with professional partners
  • Ensuring efficient records keeping and secure information storage
  • Collecting customer payments including license sales and tolls, and reconciling accounts
  • Assisting with or managing incidents
The team The Environment Agency has a responsibility to manage some of the busiest recreational waterways in the country. Our River Thames operations include 45 lock and weir complexes and our aim is to provide a first class service. Your team will consist of Lock and Weir Keepers and Technical staff reporting to the Team Leader and will provide support to other teams. The role advertised will be based between Henley and Windsor covering various sites. Experience/skills required
  • Experience of taking responsibility for the safety of yourself and others.
  • Strong customer focus and communication skills particularly face to face and over the phone
  • Well organised and methodical with attention to detail
  • Able to prioritise and highlight potential issues
  • Achieves results and delivers outcomes
  • Able to use standard IT packages efficiently and to learn specialised systems
  • A quick learner who can work effectively on their own and as part of a team
