Position Overview & Specifications

Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse universities: a community of 30,000 students, 4,000 staff and more than 280,000 alumni around the globe. Our mission is simple: we transform lives. Our vision is to be the world's leading applied university – showing what a university focused on transforming lives can achieve. To achieve our mission, we are looking for up to 40 professors and associate professors over the next three years, to lead research that addresses real-world problems. Our initial priority is for applications across four thematic areas:
  • AI, data analytics and robotics
  • Lifelong health and wellbeing
  • Climate action and energy
  • Inclusive and just society
You will be committed to disseminating knowledge and creating impacts that benefit the University, the region and the wider world. You will be a role model to students, ensuring that research and innovation are central to their experience. As an experienced or emerging leader, you can demonstrate success in research and innovation and are well recognised in your area of expertise, as evidenced by a track record of sustained delivery and funding. You are adept at using your research, networking and leadership skills to develop people and teams, gain credibility and win funding. Your experience may have an academic focus, or you may be leading research and innovation in industry. We value the fact that real-world knowledge is forged in diverse contexts. We actively encourage underrepresented candidates to express an interest, as we believe diversity of thought and experience can spur us to greater success. If you care about the power of higher education to transform lives and strengthen communities, and you’re looking for an inspiring new challenge, a Transforming Lives Fellowship at Sheffield Hallam University could be the perfect opportunity for you. We’re working hard to increase diversity across the University, especially in our academic leadership.
